Excerpts from Cerddi Taliesin
The Journey of Taliesin
You know me now as Chief of Bards My fate spelled out in teller’s cards As one who journeyed far from man Learning from Fae when time began But hear that I have many names And have been fond of many games Gwion, Taliesin, Radiant Brow Was not always who they are now Before I was renowned for song, I sought my fame, I travelled long To greatest heights I oft would climb And claim such treasures lost to time
With foothold light and handhold small, I feared that I would lose it all, And swiftly tumble to my death With beating heart I held my breath, And reached again with all my might, To find a most delightful sight A golden chest awaited me, But also strength and memory, Seized my bequests with one great heave, Renewed my spirit, took my leave Many vast peaks I dared to scale And lived to tell the hero’s tale
