Essence. Much studied, yet barely understood. What we, the Calcularia, have gleaned thus far is this: they are the fundamental building blocks of all things in the Realms. Each is, itself, a potent piece of a Realm’s magickal constitution, imbued with its own unique character. For this power, they are highly valued, useful in a variety of enchantments and imbuements. Their acquisition, however, is often difficult, relying on still imprecise science.
